Procurement options

Circularly economy encourages numerous options, which are oriented in the circular principle of minimization of waste and conservation of the values, including the options related to the acquisition of objects, e.g. the possibility of procurement of used equipment or remanufactured equipment etc. These options can even be written in the documentation of circular public procurement. These options focus especially on circular inputs as such, and less in others options presented by circular business models.

Good practice: Ordering furniture in Wales - refurbished furniture

When the Institute for Public Public Health Wales (PHW) moved to new premises in 2016, they decided to conclude a contract for office furniture that would encourage a reuse of the existing office equipment, furniture and flooring and at the same time enable a supply of refurbished products from other resources.

Open house day provided the supplier some key design specifications to create a collaborative working environment and a reuse of furniture. The winning consortium, which included social companies, supplied more than 2,500 products. Of these there were only 6% new products, and the rest were restored or got a new function, of which an important share originated from the existing PHW supplies. Circular approach prevented the 41 tons of waste - saving 134 tons of CO2 - and at the same time created permanent working places for more disabled and long-term unemployed people.
